Cutting Edge Academic Coordinator
DESCRIPTION OF JOB:Ìý ÌýÌýÌý
°Õ³ó±ðÌýCutting EdgeÌýAcademic Coordinator works withÌýstudents with intellectual and developmental disabilities as well as parents, student workers, and 91ÌìÌÃÔ„“ staff & faculty to promote inclusion within higher education. The Academic Coordinator ensures students’ academicÌýaccommodations are met, and modifications are implemented whenÌýappropriate. The Academic Coordinator also collaborates with faculty in supporting students in general education courses.Ìý
Responsibilities:
Academic Scheduling and Support
- Identifies and implements academic accommodations and support for students based on students’ Individualized Education Plans and other disability documentationÌý
- Acts as the first point of contact to address student needs and supports in academicsÌý
- Attends weekly student meetings to address student needs and supports in academicsÌý
- Advises students on course selection and registration according to their certificate or degree planÌý
- Develops and monitors Individualized College Plans, student profiles, and student schedules
- Creates the Academic Master Schedule for the programÌý
Family & Staff Collaboration
- Identifies student support needs (course coaching) and collaborates with program leadership to address these needs
- Collaborates with the Practicum Coordinator and/or other Education Faculty specifically to address practicum needsÌýÌýÌýÌýÌý
- Communicates and collaborates with families, students, and facultyÌýregardingÌýacademicsÌýÌý
- Collaborates with other academic advisors at the University to support degree-seeking studentsÌý
- Communicates with the Registrar’s Office regarding course audits, special arrangements, or other course related needsÌý
- Communicates with the Division of Education regarding Cutting Edge courses, enrollment predictions, and the timetableÌý
- Partners with program leadership to make changes to Cutting Edge courses or Cutting Edge certificates Ìý
- Partners with program leadership to address matters of campus and classroom inclusionÌý
Curriculum and Instruction
- May develop curriculum for select Cutting Edge courses: EDUÌý91 Safety in the Community, EDUÌý92 Interpersonal Relationships, EDUÌý93Ìý& 94ÌýInternship, and EDUÌý90/100 Skills for SuccessÌýÌý
- May deliver direct instruction throughout the school year Ìý
- Provides regular feedback to students regarding their progress (when instructing)Ìý
Event PlanningÌý
- CollaboratesÌýwithÌýtheÌýCutting Edge TeamÌýin planningÌýand executingÌýannual events: Concluding Ceremony,ÌýPre-College Program, Cutting Edge Retreat, Open Houses,ÌýNightÌýMarket, Student Showcase,Ìýand Peer Mentor AppreciationÌý
- Attends program events as assignedÌý
On Call
- Available to respond to urgent student matters after hours via the duty phone; schedule is created on a rotating basis amongst staffÌý
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Necessary Education or Work Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in special educationÌýorÌýrelatedÌýfieldÌý
- Experience implementing academic accommodations, modifications and support
- Minimum of three years related work experience
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of academic accommodations and modifications, assistive technologies, and academic support tools/resourcesÌý
- Ability to co-manage multiple student schedulesÌý
- Ability to collaborate with staff and facultyÌý
- Experience in administrative management of services for adult learners with disabilities;
- Excellent oral and written communication skillsÌý Ìý
- Excellent organizational skillsÌý
- Excellent interpersonal communication skillsÌý Ìý
Required Technology Skills:
- Ability to utilize Microsoft Office SuiteÌý
- Ability to incorporate assistive technology into the programÌý
- Ability to use online applications such as Blackboard to monitor student assignment completionÌý
